California Service-Learning Regional Leads: A statewide network of service-learning leaders who promote service-learning and provide technical assistance to practitioners.
The Challenge Series:
The four Challenge series volumes help students understand and analyze
controversial topics. The volumes cover areas crucial to our society:
violence, information, diversity, and governance.
Choices for the 21st Century: Choices Program develops student-centered curriculum resources that make connections between historical events and contemporary issues and engage students in deliberation on contested international issues.
Criminal Justice in America:
The 360-page text has readings, discussion questions, and interactive
activities that foster critical thinking. Its six units covers all
aspects of crime, policing, a criminal case, corrections, juvenile
justice, and solutions to crime. The teacher's guide includes goals,
standards addressed, lesson sequences, and reproducible activity and
test masters and answer keys. CRF's web site offers links to more
readings, the latest statistics, almost every case mentioned in the
text, and more.
Bill of Rights in Action:
The Bill of Rights in Action curricular newsletter is distributed
to over 30,000 educators nationally for use in history, government,
and other social studies classes.
Essence of Acceptance: Curriculum provides understanding of human rights and oral history interviewing. Through stories of loss, students learn the importance of civic responsibility and protection of rights.
Facing History and Ourselves: Facing History and Ourselves provides resources and professional development to teachers worldwide so students can explore choices and recognize the decisions in history that led to group hatred and violence. Students learn civic skills and develop civic dispositions.
Foundations of Democracy:
Foundations of Democracy is a K- 12 curricular program based on concepts
fundamental to an understanding of politics and government such as
Authority, Privacy, Responsibility and Justice
Get Up-Stand Up Vote/Youth Voter Education Project John F. Kennedy High School students along with other Sacramento City Unified high school students have developed this project for students to participate in registering citizens to vote, to become poll workers in county elections and to participate in mock elections.
A Government for Xlandia; Problem Based Unit: Free HS government unit on basics of democratic constitutions, comparative systems. Uses problem based learning methodology; students work in groups in an engaging real-world scenario.

The LegiSchool Project: LegiSchool's
goal is to engage lifeyoung adults in matters of state public policies
- public policies that directly impact their lives. In doing so, we
hope to motivate young people to take an interest in public life and
our democracy.

School Violence Prevention Demonstration
Program: The School Violence Prevention Demonstration Program
is a curriculum, training and research program that provides students
with opportunities to engage in high quality civic education and group
participation exercises.
Service-Learning - Student's Guide & Journal For Mid & High: This new resource will help your students organize their Service-Learning project, improve their thinking, writing, research, collaborative, and communication skills – and help you document the success of the Service-Learning program.
Student Voices: The Student Voices Project encourages the civic engagement of young people by bringing the study of local government, policy issues, and political campaigns into the classroom.
Voter Registration Drive A service learing project to promote voting Students are given a "present" on their 18th birithday. Delivered to their class, with appropriate fanfare, the present includes voter registration material and a "Be Heard" wrist band.
We the People: The Citizen and the
Constituion: The primary goal of We the People: The Citizen and
the Constitution is to promote civic competence and responsibility
among the nation's elementary and secondary students.
We the People: Project Citizen:
Project Citizen is a curricular program that promotes competent and
responsible participation in local and state government. The program
helps young people learn how to monitor and influence public policy.
Youth in Government: City of Davis, California:Davis High Schools "Youth in Government Day" is one of the ways we connect our students to the policy-making process in our community.
Youth Leadership for Action:
Youth Leadership for Action is CRF's leadership development program
for high school students. YLFA emphasizes active citizenship and provides
the opportunity to develop civic leadership skills.
